Doctrinal Statement

The Scripture. We believe that the Old and New Testaments are the revelation of God and thus constitute the Word of God. Men, chosen by God, wrote the Bible under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Thus, the scripture is His all-sufficient, infallible word to mankind, inerrant in the original manuscripts, having full authority over mankind in regards to life and conduct, and is the final authority for what we believe. (John 17:17; 2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21).

The Godhead. We believe that there is one living and true God, an infinite, self-existent Spirit, unchangeable in His nature, and eternally existing  in three eternal persons – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are one as to their nature, essence, and attributes. The Godhead is the absolute and sole creator of the universe and their creation was by divine fiat, not through evolutionary process. Each of these divine members is equally worthy of worship, trust, and obedience. (Matt 28:19; John 1:1-3; 2 Cor 3:17; Heb 9:14)

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His substitutionary death for sinners, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in the fulfillment of His present intercessory and mediator ministry, and in His personal return in power and glory. (Isa. 7:14; John 1:14; Phil. 2:5-11; Heb. 1:2-3; 1 John 1:7; 1 Thess 4:16 -17)

Man’s Creation and Fall. We believe that Adam was created in the image and likeness of God immediately and apart from any process of evolution. Adam, by personal disobedience to the will of God, became a sinner, depraved in nature and subject to Satan’s power. Sin and depravity has been transmitted to the entire human race so that man is a sinner by nature, choice, and practice and is guilty before God, a just object of God’s wrath (John 8:44; Gen 1:26; Eph 2:1-2; Rom 3:9-23).

Salvation. We believe that salvation is wholly of God by grace on the basis of the redeeming work of Jesus Christ, not on the basis of human merit or works. All true believers are eternally secure in their salvation and will also persevere in the faith (John 1:12-13; 3:16; Eph 2:9; Titus 3:5)

The Holy Spirit. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, co-eternal and co-equal with the Father and the Son. He became resident in the world on the Day of Pentecost as a result of being sent by the Father and Son. We believe that the regeneration of the believer at the time of conversation is the result of the immediate act of the Spirit through the instrumentality of the Word of God. The Spirit also indwells, sanctifies, and seals all believers. We believe in the spirit-filled life by which the Spirit empowers for holiness and service. (John 14:26; 16:13-14; Rom 8:14-17; Eph 4:30; John 3:3; 1 Peter 1:23)

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit and Spiritual Gifts. We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the “pouring forth” of the Holy Spirit that comes upon every believer at conversion. It is the “immersion” of the believer into the realm of the Holy Spirit and includes the uniting of believers to Christ. We believe the Holy Spirit, at the point of salvation, imparts a spiritual gift to every believer. The Lord Jesus assigns the ministry for which that gift is to be utilized, and God the Father promises to produce supernatural effects as the believer fulfills that ministry. Each gift is to be used for the edification of the Church. (Acts 2:33, I Cor 12:4-18, Eph 1:13, 2:20, James 5:13-16, Heb 2:3-4).

The Church. We believe that the church is a spiritual body begun on the Day of Pentecost into which the Holy Spirit baptizes all true believers. The exalted Christ is the only head of the church. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by building up its members in faith by instruction of the Word, by fellowship, by keeping the two ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s supper, and by advancing and communicating the gospel to the entire world. (John 16:16-18; Acts 1:5; 11:16; 28:18-20; 1 Cor 11:23-32)

Satan and Varied Spirit Beings. We believe that prior to the creation of the material universe, the Triune God created a great host of varied spirit beings. Lucifer (Satan) fell by sinning against God and took with him a large number of angels. Satan is the author of sin and the one who was the instigator in the fall of Adam and Eve. Satan is the enemy of God, the accuser of God’s people, and is constantly active in opposing the works and people of God. He was judged at the cross, and his ultimate destiny is the Lake of fire. (Ezek 28:11-18, Gen 3:1-6, John 12:31, Matt 25:41).

The Last Things. We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ who will come in power to establish His millennial kingdom. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and unsaved dead, the final judgment, the redeemed being eternally in God’s presence, and the unsaved in eternal suffering and punishment. (Matt 25:31-46; John 5:28-29; Rev 20:1-15)
